I am sharing my experience because, until tonight, I had been unsure whether my Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback 2 Game Controller would actually work in Windows 10, reading Microsoft's official compatibility website listed as 'Not compatible'.

First a bit of my own history: I purchased this joystick circa 2008, probably near the end of its commercial availability. It was bought along with Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition. Initially both were installed on a Windows Vista 64-bit desktop. I didn't devote that much time to playing the simulator (I wished I could!) so when I did a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit, on the same hardware platform, I did not reinstall the Flight Simulator and I don't think I plugged the joystick to the computer either. Therefore I cannot comment on the driver compatibility.

Now I have a new desktop since 2014, initially running Windows 8.1 64-bit, which was recently upgraded to Windows 10 64-bit. Now I have a bit more time at hand, I would like to put back the simulator setup. The software was listed as compatible, but not the joystick. Given my very light use, I really didn't want to buy a 'compatible' one.

So tonight, I plugged it into the computer and voila! the operating system recognized it without issues. In fact, the calibration interface looks really familiar and probably trickled down from earlier versions of Windows anyway. Then I reinstalled the Flight Simulator X: Gold (not the more modern Steam version) and so far, the simulator does recognize the joystick and force feedback seems to work.
